Interested in being on our roster?
We are always looking for
exceptional music and artists. JazzbyMail is a dedicated Jazz
site. Our mission is to promote the good music and the artists
who create it, any way we can. We are a bit like an "living" art museum
where the art is music, and we want the "collection" to represent the
best there is. We want to hear what you are doing- send us a CD.
We have a one-time $20 per title administration fee that covers setting
up your CD/MP3's on our website and programming your artist information
in our database and on our website. This debit will be applied to
your account so you have no out-of-pocket expenses.

you only have a few songs (not associated with an album), send them as
MP3, AAC or CD, along with any artwork you have.

What makes us different from CDBaby:
1) We are a "trad jazz" site- you will not be put in a section back in
the corner on JazzbyMail, it's our specialty. Our visitors are looking
specifically for traditional jazz, ragtime, etc., and they don't have
to click several times to find the kind of music they are looking for.
This makes a huge difference. We're a specialty store, not a department
store. Look at the home page of any site you are considering- what kind
of music are they featuring?
2) We are a "filtered" site, just what we call the "good" stuff.
We are like an art museum where the art is music. We only want
exceptional music and artists, and this means music we can recommend to
our users. We want to "serve" our niche, and it better be tasty.
3) We offer DOWNLOADs AND CDS!!!! We are dedicated to helping artists
"make the transition from spinning to non-spinning formats", from cds
to mp3s, AAC, what ever is the "next" thing. These downloaders, from
all over the world, listened to a preview, and liked it enough to
download it. They probably play it multiple times- it's almost like
actually being on the RADIO!!!! Multiple listens are what create fans
and customers, almost nothing else works.
Legal Stuff
Our store acts as a retail distributor of your music, in either CD or
downloadable format, and not as a licensee. You or your record
label are responsible for paying any royalties due.
This is a non-exclusive agreement- we hold NO RIGHTS to your recordings
or compositions. Beware of agreements requiring giving up rights to
your intellectual property!
The downloads that we sell are copy-protected exactly the same as a CD,
which means there is no copy protection. Our books are open, and you
can view your sales in realtime, online from any browser; you will get
paid for each download you sell. The customer is free, as always, to
respect your copyright or not.
How the CD sales work:
We work on a consignment basis. We list your product in our
catalog, warehouse your product and fill any orders received via our
website or telephone. The artist is responsible for shipping your
material to us. If you have a website, we can link to it from within
the catalog as well. You should include an invoice with your package
that we can keep on record. We'll also use a copy of this as a
receipt. You can call or e-mail anytime about the status of your
account. We pay artists quarterly for every sale. You may
request the return of any unsold CDs at any time, but you'll be
responsible for the return shipping.
We pay each quarter for sales from the previous quarter.
Download Info:
We offer ONE class of downloads: FOR SALE downloads (you get half
the revenue, which averages 40 cents to you for every track sold). You
can offer as many for sale downloads as you like, and you can change
them as often as you like in artist administration.
These terms are subject to change. We want to provide artists with
revenue from sales that they wouldn't otherwise get, and we want to
pass on as much as possible to the artists. That is our goal. What
we don't know is if these numbers will allow us to sustain our
operation. Our agreement is non-exclusive, and can be terminated
at any time by either party, so if you have any problem with a change
in policy you may pull out of the catalog. Please bear with us as
we try to grow this organization.

possibilities of music expand, so do our own."-NYTimes.com, 03.17.02
