Reviews:
The first of three piano solo CDs recorded during a three-day period by Butch Thompson pays tribute to the legacy of New Orleans jazz, in particular Jelly Roll Morton. Thompson, a masterful interpreter of prebop music, brings back the spirit of Morton on fresh interpretations of 11 of his compositions plus Dink Johnson's "Stomp de Lowdown" and a pair of orignals ("Ecuadorean Memories" and "Dink's Blues"). Fans of early jazz piano will certainly enjoy this set and its two follow-ups Chicago Breakdown and Good Old New York.
