Virginia Tichenor Home Page

Virginia started performing professionally at the St. Louis Ragtime Festival in 1982, delivering a ragtime tribute to Tom Shea. She appears regularly at ragtime festivals throughout this country, where she is one of a handful of favorite performers with her own fan club. Her affinity for folk rags is amply demonstrated in this CD, as is her love for Scott Joplin, Joseph Lamb, Artie Matthews, Eubie Blake and Jelly Roll Morton. As a ragtimer in the '90s (20th century variety), Virginia embraces today's composers with a great deal of empathy. After all, knowing them and hearing them play their own works beats learning rags from the sterile printed page. - David A. Jansen, ragtime pianist.
