Brian Ogilvie
Brian OgilvieBrian Ogilvie was an internationally renowned saxophonist and clarinetist of extraordinary ability in the interpretation of early jazz forms. He was a 1989 winner of the prestigious National Canada Council of the Arts Award. Ogilvie had over twenty years experience with a wide variety of jazz ensembles, from duos to big bands. He played leading roles at numerous distinguished international jazz festivals, including Edinburgh (Scotland) and Brecon (Wales). Originally from Vancouver, Ogilvie spent many years in Toronto involved in all kinds of jazz activities including big bands and small groups, even leading a band of his own with his talented brothers.Brian Ogilvie was the JCJB clarinetist/saxophonist from 1992-95 and appears on all Riverwalk shows recorded during that time, as well as on several CDs. Brian also contributed a number of original compositions to the radio series.After leaving the JCJB in 1995, Brian moved to New Orleans and worked aboard the Mississippi Queen riverboat. He continued to appear at American and international jazz festivals.The JCJB received word that Brian Ogilvie died in hospital on August 14, 2004 after collapsing during a jazz festival in Inverness, Scotland.
